You’d have been living a fairly sheltered life lately not to have been aware of the explosion in the ubiquity of apps. Perhaps part of this is due to the pandemic obliging us (a while ago) to live online, and, more recently, to be more cautious and contactless in the physical world.
The way we live, interact, work, shop, amuse, educate and distract ourselves has been fundamentally changed by our wholesale adoption of what we used to call smartphones, but what we now increasingly just call phones (the kind of phone now owned by 84% of UK adults).
